Naruto TCG Gets Its First Trailer on October 10

VIZ Media sent out a media alert for New York Comic Con on September 9. Somewhere in the program rundown sits one clause that’s worth more to card players than everything printed around it: at the „NARUTO: What’s Next?“ panel there will be „new information and the first promotional video for the NARUTO CARD GAME.“

We covered the panel itself back at the start of September: Saturday, October 10, 5 to 6 p.m. local time on the Empire Stage at the Javits Center, which is 11 p.m. for those of us in Central Europe. What was missing then was any firm commitment that the card game would actually get airtime. The official listing promised „latest updates“ and a new roadmap, and honestly, that can mean anything or nothing.

Now the press release names a format. A PV, meaning a promotional video, the first one for the NCG.

There’s a second line that’s easy to skip, because it sits down in the press-services section: VIZ is offering reporters on site „A Bandai representative for NARUTO CARD GAME interviews.“ So someone from Bandai will be there, taking questions. For a product with no set name, no price and not a single sentence about European distribution, that might be the more valuable half of the announcement. Assuming somebody asks the right questions.

The Trailer Came From the Wrong Press Desk

Odd part: the official NCG site says nothing about it. The Bandai Card Games page for NYCC is dated August 7, lists booth #2705, the tutorial rules and the panel with Junko Takeuchi and Noriaki Sugiyama. Not a word about a promo video. The news that Bandai’s card game is getting its first trailer came from the North American anime and manga publisher.

Plain division of labor explains it. The panel belongs to the IP side, and the stage seats two voice actors plus Yoshihiko Tominaga, executive producer at Studio Pierrot. No game designer, no product manager. The NCG is one item on a Naruto show, wedged between a film announcement with a worldwide premiere and whatever VIZ files under „surprise announcements.“

The setup still tells you something about the pecking order. If you’ve got the date circled as a player, know that you are not watching a card game panel. Two press desks, one piece of news, and only one of them put it out.

Twelve Days to Essen

Here’s the part that matters on this side of the Atlantic. Twelve days separate the October 10 panel from SPIEL in Essen. Paris Games Week runs alongside it, both October 22 to 25, then Lucca from October 28 to November 1. Whatever gets said in New York is therefore the exact information the European booths carry into autumn. If nothing solid lands, visitors in Essen will face the same table Gen Con attendees saw in late July: demo decks, a playmat, a promise for summer 2027.

Will the video go online afterward? Bandai hasn’t said. With the other Bandai games these clips usually hit the Bandai Card Games YouTube channel the same day, but nothing has been announced for October 10. A panel video only counts as a panel video once somebody uploads it.

My take: if you’re hoping for prices, set names or an EU date, dial that expectation way down. A first PV is mood-setting with music and artwork, not a spec sheet. Bandai tends to show the look first at occasions like this and hand over the numbers later, often only once distributor preorders start moving. The game ships in summer 2027. Early October is simply too soon for price tags.

The video stays interesting anyway, because a trailer shows how Bandai wants to sell this thing. Anime footage or gameplay footage? Chakra system on screen, or just characters in slow motion? That tells you more about whether the NCG is aimed at collectors or tournament players than any roadmap slide does. With One Piece it was fairly clear where things were headed after the first video.

October 10, by the way, is Naruto’s birthday. That one is not a coincidence.
