Bandai confirmed the CP-001 Chakra Card in a Yankees version: 40,000 copies, just a logo overprint. And from October the same card shows up at every tutorial session, quite possibly Essen included.
On August 7, Bandai posted three items to the official NCG site. One at a time, they read like calendar admin. Stack them next to each other and you get something else entirely. The first card of the NARUTO CARD GAME is about to stop being rare.
The card is the CP-001 Chakra Card. You know the one. Handed out to tutorial participants at Gen Con in Indianapolis in early August, Naruto and Sasuke on the front, and it has been bouncing around collector forums ever since as the most expensive piece of cardboard from a game that hasn’t shipped.
It’s coming back on September 8. This time at Yankee Stadium.
One Logo, 40,000 Copies
The Yankees host the Colorado Rockies that night, billed as „NARUTO Night at Yankee Stadium,“ and Bandai has confirmed the giveaway of the CP-001 Chakra Card -New York Yankees Ver.- Which is where collectors started tripping over themselves, because the card is not new. It’s the same illustration as the Gen Con version with the Yankees logo stamped on it.
No exclusive artwork. No exclusive character. A stamp. And, per Resell Calendar, a print run of 40,000 instead of the 18,000 initially reported. A Kage Bunshin at industrial scale.
So Bandai quietly cancelled the scarcity the secondary market had been betting on for weeks. And that market had really talked itself into a state.
The Market Bet on a Card Nobody Had Seen
Dexerto and Resell Calendar both report presale listings that moved before anyone knew what the art looked like: roughly $600 to $700 for the card alone, $750 to $850 for bundles that threw in the event headband, individual listings north of $800. People were selling a product sight unseen. (I say „listings“ on purpose. eBay pricing is hard to verify seriously from the outside, and these numbers come from reporting, not from my own market tracking.)
Ticket prices followed. From around $30 to over $140 for the cheap seats as of July 19. For a September baseball game. Because of a card for a game launching in summer 2027. How is that still collecting?
Anyone who wants to call that a fluke should look at July 2, when the Dodgers ran a One Piece giveaway. Ungraded copies pushed toward $1,000 within a day per Resell Calendar, and PSA 10 copies later hit $3,800. The pattern is well known. Bandai knows it too. The Gen Con version of CP-001 currently sits around $1,000 to $1,200.
With 40,000 logo-stamped copies in circulation, that math changes.
From October, You Get the Card for Listening
The second half of the announcement is the more useful one. Bandai simultaneously published event details for New York Comic Con (October 8 to 11, Javits Center, Booth 2705) and PAX Australia (October 9 to 11, Melbourne). Same structure both times: a free tutorial session with demo decks, and afterwards you get a CP-001 Chakra Card and a logo sticker.
Two conditions apply. You have to be registered to the „NARUTO TCG UPDATES CHANNEL“ on TCG+, and you have to fill out a survey after the session. One participation prize per person no matter how many times you sit down. Bandai is also selling the official playmat there, technically a 2027 product, for $35 plus tax.
So the card is being used as exactly what it is: a marketing item. Sit through the pitch, get the promo. Completely standard TCG practice, and I have twenty years of Magic prerelease promos sitting in binders whose entire value was that I showed up that weekend.
What About Essen?
The European dates have been locked since the July 29 roadmap reveal: Spiel Essen from October 22 to 25, Paris Games Week in the same window, Lucca Comics & Games from October 28 to November 1. Tutorial sessions at all of them, confirmed by Bandai.
What’s missing as of August 17 are the detail pages. NYCC and PAX Aus have them. Essen doesn’t. Whether the Chakra promo gets handed out there under the same terms is something Bandai hasn’t spelled out, even if the general roadmap wording (a „gift set“ for tutorial participants) points hard in that direction.
My read: it happens. Bandai has run this same convention playbook for One Piece and Union Arena for years, and skipping a promo at the biggest consumer tabletop show on the calendar, right ahead of a simultaneous worldwide launch, would be a very strange thing to leave on the table. The real question is how many sessions run per day and how early you need to be standing in line.
Until then, if you’re weighing $700 on an American baseball card, keep this in mind: it’s the same illustration that gets handed out on three continents in October for sitting through a demo. The overprint is a logo, not a jutsu.
Bandai has more product info scheduled for December 2026, in-store tutorial sessions from January 2027, and a worldwide release in summer 2027. Until then, CP-001 stays the only card anyone can actually hold.
Are you going to Essen in October? And would you queue at a convention for a promo, or is that just not worth your Sunday morning?
