Naruto TCG: Jakarta Gets the First NCG Session

The roadmap for the NARUTO CARD GAME quietly picked up a date almost nobody is talking about. Not New York. Not Essen. Jakarta.

Bandai has broken out the program for the BANDAI CARD GAMES Fest 26-27, and on the page for the very first stop, the NCG now has an entry of its own, sitting there next to Battle Spirits, Digimon, One Piece, Union Arena, Dragon Ball Super Fusion World and the Gundam Card Game. October 10 and 11, Mall Alam Sutera, Tangerang. For a game that does not hit shelves until summer 2027, that puts it on two stages inside a few weeks.

A Teaching Session, Not a Tournament

Worth flagging for anyone who hears „Fest“ and immediately pictures a Top 8: what happens in Jakarta is not a championship. Bandai lists it as a Teaching Session, filed under „On-Site Registration Side Event“. A learning table, basically, where you put your name down once you get there. Prizes? The official page says exactly one thing at that spot: „COMING SOON“.

Anything else would have been ridiculous. There are no purchasable cards yet, no banlist, no meta. What there is: demo decks, plus somebody to walk you through how a Leader works with 51 cards, five Chakra cards and one Summon card. That is the whole menu.

The catch sits one level up. You do not just wander onto the Fest floor. „An admission ticket obtained through advance registration is required to participate,“ the tournament page states. The registration window runs August 10 through August 24, with results going out from September 10. No ticket, no look inside that Teaching Session.

The Real Story Is Called BANDAI TCG+

Registration runs through the BANDAI TCG+ app. Which wants a face photo for verification first.

I know this song from the One Piece side of the house, and I found it tedious there too. On the other hand, Bandai did not build this hurdle for fun. Running a promo event in 2026 without identity checks is really just running a scalper race, and the presale circus around the Yankees giveaway is giving us a fresh look at what that produces right now. My read: this is a preview of what organized play will feel like in 2027. If you already know you want to play the NCG competitively, go set up the account now.

Whether the same gate applies in Germany later is an open question. Bandai has traditionally run European organized play through local stores rather than direct allocation. The direction of travel is still pretty legible.

So What Does This Mean Over Here?

Not much yet, and that is not bad news. The Fest tours eleven cities: Jakarta and Manila in October, Bangkok and Hong Kong in November, then Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei and Shanghai in December, Orlando and London in January 2027, Tokyo sometime early that year. Europe shows up exactly once (London), and there is still no confirmation the NCG is even coming along. Bandai says outright that the participating titles vary by stop.

Sounds worse than it is. There is a second track for us, and it is well stocked: Spiel Essen October 22 to 25, Paris Games Week in the same stretch, Lucca Comics & Games at the end of the month. Tutorial sessions are announced for those. Anyone who wants hands on the NCG this year does not need a flight to Southeast Asia, just a train ticket to Essen.

Here is what stands out about that October week. Bandai is running New York from October 8 to 11 (booth 2705 at the Javits Center), PAX Australia from October 9 to 11, and Jakarta on October 10 and 11. Three continents, same weekend. Wild. There is serious capacity behind this. With One Piece, that exact simultaneity is what emptied the launch print run on day one anyway.

The Rest Is Waiting

The Fest page delivers zero concrete product information. No price, no box contents, no card list beyond the reveals we already have. Bandai has flagged December for the next real wave of information, with in-store tutorials scheduled to begin in January 2027.

Until then, dates accumulate. For a game that has officially existed since June 18, whose announcement artwork Masashi Kishimoto drew himself, that is a solid pace. Honestly, I expected far more radio silence between the reveal and winter.

Which leaves the question I ask about every new TCG. Is a Teaching Session enough to hold onto somebody who is being asked to buy a year later? With Magic, the demo was never what got me. It was the second night at the kitchen table. What is your take, are you heading to Essen in October?
