As of August 7, NARUTO Night at Yankee Stadium is official on the NCG site: the CP-001 Chakra Card, Yankees version, drops September 8. What it means for collectors and why the print run is the real argument.
It’s been sitting on the official NARUTO CARD GAME site since August 7, in plain text, no squinting required: a promo card is coming to Yankee Stadium on September 8. The rumor mill can shut up now. So can everyone who spent three weeks zooming into a „Presented by“ logo. Bandai just posted the date.
And the card has a name that’s going to make a few people sit up straight.
CP-001, Take Two
What’s getting handed out is the CP-001 Chakra Card, New York Yankees version. If you’ve been paying attention these past few weeks, that number should already be ringing: CP-001 is the same card that went to Tutorial Session participants at Gen Con in late July. That one arrived in a gift set with a backpack, a sticker, and a voucher for the official playmat that doesn’t ship until 2027.
So the Yankees printing isn’t a new card in any meaningful sense. No new art, no new slot in the card pool. Same number, fresh coat of paint, Yankees logo on it. Bandai drops the usual disclaimer right there on the page: images shown may differ from the final product, since the game is still in development.
Opponent that night is the Colorado Rockies. And the Yankees‘ house rule for giveaways reads like boilerplate, which is exactly why people skim past the single most important sentence in the whole announcement:
„Guests are eligible for only one item per valid same-day game ticket, per valid entry.“
One card per ticket, per entry. Want two? Bring a friend. That’s the mechanic that moves ticket prices in these situations, and it’s already moved them for this game.
18,000 or 40,000? The Number Is the Real Argument
Here’s where it gets murky, and I want to be loud about it: Bandai lists no print run on the official page. Zero. The figures floating around all come from the collector press. First it was 18,000 copies, then came reports of a bump to 40,000. The stadium holds roughly 45,000 people.
That gap isn’t cosmetic. At 18,000 cards against 45,000 in the stands, two out of three fans go home with nothing and the secondary market gets a runway a mile long. At 40,000, pretty much anyone who makes it through the turnstile before first pitch walks out with one, and your artificial scarcity is just a souvenir.
Until Bandai puts a number on the page, I wouldn’t bet on either one.
What the Gen Con Card Tells Us About Pricing
The Gen Con version of CP-001 is the only real reference point anyone has. Raw copies, meaning ungraded, are selling around 1,000 to 1,200 US dollars. One seller moved a copy bundled with the playmat voucher and the backpack for 1,800. Those aren’t wishful asking prices sitting in a listing. Those are traced completed sales.
For the Yankees card, eBay presales are running up to 800 dollars. Presale, as in: no object, no published design, just a promise and a September ship date. People are handing over three figures for a card nobody on earth has held yet. (Usual eBay caveat: these are listing prices, not receipts.)
The comparison case is less than six weeks old, by the way. On July 2 the Dodgers ran a One Piece Card Game promo. Ungraded copies moved for close to 1,000 dollars inside a day, and early Gem Mint 10 slabs got as high as 3,800. Bandai has played this field before and knows every inch of it. There’s method in what’s happening here.
What About Us Over Here?
Soberly: for the German market, this card doesn’t exist. No import, no distribution channel, no shop pulling it in. Want one? You’re buying from an American collector, plus shipping, plus customs, plus the risk that some presale seller simply ghosts you come September.
The question I find more interesting is a different one. The roadmap has Spiel in Essen from October 22 to 25 with Tutorial Sessions, plus Paris Games Week in the same window and Lucca Comics & Games at the end of October. At Gen Con the card hung on exactly that hook: play the tutorial, walk off with the gift set. Whether Bandai repeats the trick in Europe is confirmed nowhere. The sessions are confirmed. What’s in the bag is not.
Anything else would be genuinely strange. A publisher who understands this clearly, who knows how well promo scarcity feeds attention, doesn’t run four major European shows with nothing physical attached. Then again, hoped for is not confirmed, and I’ve stood through enough Magic prereleases where the European promo turned out to look nothing like the announcement to keep my expectations on a leash.
Meanwhile the community is worrying about something a lot more practical. Over on r/NarutoCardGame, user Extension-Ad-9371 writes:
„Trying to plan ahead for once lol i have dozens of binders of the original naruto tcg and want to collect the heck out of this one.“
The guy is out hunting reputable shops to preorder a case. For a game that launches in summer 2027. If you wanted a gauge on how high expectations are running, there it is.
My Take
Chakra has to be spent with control or it fizzles out. Collecting runs on the same principle. A card that shows up before the game does, gets handed out at a baseball stadium, and exists in five-digit quantities is not an investment. It’s a keepsake from an evening most of its buyers never attended.
If the 40,000 figure holds, the price slides after September 8, almost certainly, because tens of thousands of copies hit at once in a market that has so far priced in four days of Gen Con and nothing else. If it stays at 18,000, the price holds. That’s the whole calculation.
Honestly, the price isn’t the story for me. The pace is. Bandai has kept the NCG in weekly conversation since July 29 without selling one single product, which is a wild thing to pull off when you stop and think about it. Next stop is New York Comic Con, October 8 to 11, where new information is explicitly promised. Real product details are slated for December, with in-store tutorials starting January 2027.
So tell me: would an Essen promo be worth 250 euros on eBay to you, or are you sitting on your hands until release?
