Bandai published the Gen Con details: the CP-001 Chakra Card requires TCG+ registration and a post-session survey. What's in the gift set, and what the first NCG promo means for collectors.

Bandai put the Gen Con 2026 detail page online, and buried somewhere in the middle of it is a line that most NARUTO CARD GAME coverage skipped right past. The game’s first promo card doesn’t just go to whoever sits down at the table. There’s a string attached.

Quick recap. The NCG launches worldwide, simultaneously, in 2027. It was announced on June 18 along with an original illustration from Masashi Kishimoto. On July 29 Bandai shows the first real cards plus the roadmap, at 7:00 AM Pacific. A day later Gen Con opens in Indianapolis, and the world premiere happens there in the form of the first Tutorial Sessions.

The Swag Bag You Have to Do Homework For

The Tutorial Sessions are free, they run in Event Room #121, and they’re aimed squarely at people who have never touched an NCG card. Demo decks, somebody walks you through the rules, done. Anyone who takes part gets a gift set: a backpack, a logo sticker, and a purchase voucher for the official playmat arriving in 2027.

And then there’s the CP-001 Chakra Card -Gen Con 2026 Ver.-. The first numbered promo this game will ever have.

That one you only get if you’re registered to the „NARUTO TCG UPDATES CHANNEL“ on the TCG+ app beforehand and fill out a survey after your session. Skip either step and you walk out with a backpack and a sticker. Very Konoha, honestly: paperwork first, mission second.

I get why they’re doing it. Bandai is building a pre-launch mailing list out of exactly the people willing to give up an hour of convention time for a game nobody has played yet, and that’s cheaper than any ad campaign. You just want to know about it before you’re standing there realizing the card is gated behind an app download.

One Session. Per Person. The Whole Con.

The fine print is where it gets interesting. You may attend exactly one Tutorial Session across all of Gen Con, and participation prizes are limited to one per person no matter how many slots you reserved. No farming. Period.

The playmat voucher runs $35 plus tax and is only valid on the day of the session you attended. You redeem it at the BANDAI CARD GAMES booth in Exhibition Hall #605. Ticket registration for the sessions ran through the Gen Con website starting June 21, and you need regular con admission anyway — single-day badges land somewhere between $41 and $83 depending on the day.

One more detail I find even more telling. Photography, video, and audio recording are flat-out banned inside the session rooms. Bandai wants to show these cards on July 29, on their terms, and not as a shaky phone clip out of Room 121. Whether that holds up for four straight days with hundreds of people handling demo decks? I have my doubts.

What This Actually Means Outside the US

Realistically, most of you reading this aren’t flying to Indianapolis. So the CP-001 reaches you through eBay and the secondary market, with the usual markup, and that markup could get steep.

The obvious comparison is Lorcana. Disney handed out exclusive cards at D23 back in 2023, individual pieces later moved for as much as $500, sealed boxes climbed toward $1,000 in bidding wars, and graded copies hit nearly $4,000. Whether the Chakra Card gets anywhere near that territory depends entirely on print run, and Bandai hasn’t mentioned a number anywhere.

My read: expensive, yes. Lorcana expensive, no. Lorcana in 2023 was the first serious Magic challenger in years and rode a hype wave almost nobody saw coming. The NCG launches into a market where Bandai is already running three big titles of its own. Anyone who followed One Piece in Europe knows the pattern by now: first waves brutally scarce, prices absurd, and a year later the stuff is sitting on every shelf. Union Arena went the same way, just quieter.

If you genuinely want this card, though, I wouldn’t bet on the price coming down. Event promos don’t get reprinted. That’s the whole difference from regular boosters.

What you can do from anywhere is install the TCG+ app and subscribe to the NCG channel. Not for the card — you’re not getting that without a Gen Con badge — but because Bandai pushes dates, preorder windows, and tournament info there first. With One Piece, that app was more than once the only reason people in Europe found out something was happening at all.

Until then, July 29 is the date. Four days out, and we finally learn how this game actually works. Bandai has said precisely nothing about the rules so far beyond aiming it at competitive players.

„The NARUTO CARD GAME! The world of Naruto continues to grow. I hope these cards can make their way into all of your hands and hearts.“ — Masashi Kishimoto

Lovely sentiment. Tells us nothing about the mechanics.

Anyone here heading to Gen Con? If so, get in touch — I’d take a field report out of Room 121 in a heartbeat, photos or not.
