Naruto TCG: Bandai Shows Its Cards on July 29

Six days left, and then the guessing game is over. On July 29, Bandai pulls back the curtain and shows real cards from the NARUTO CARD GAME for the first time. One day later, at Gen Con in Indianapolis, the first people get to actually hold the thing and play it.

Good news if you’re following along from Europe: the reveal drops at 7:00 AM Pacific (4:00 PM CEST), so early afternoon over here. No midnight stream, no excuses, no alarm set for some ungodly hour. You can just tune in live.

What actually lands on Wednesday

So far we mostly have a promise: a strategy-focused trading card game aimed at the competitive crowd, worldwide release in 2027, timed to the 25th anniversary of the Naruto TV series. The whole thing was announced on June 18, complete with an original illustration from Masashi Kishimoto himself. And let’s be honest — the guy doesn’t draw a fresh piece for every random piece of merch. That’s a statement.

July 29 is where we finally get meat on the bone: first card designs, a look at the roadmap, and with any luck a few mechanics. That’s the part that matters. I want to see what a card looks like, how the resource system ticks, whether this thing leans into team synergies and village themes. With Naruto that would make a lot of sense (Team 7, the Akatsuki, you know the drill). Until now it’s all reading tea leaves. After Wednesday, not anymore.

The goodie bag you probably won’t get

Then Gen Con itself, July 30 to August 2. That’s where the very first tutorial sessions run — Event Room #121, ticket registration opened June 21 through the Gen Con site, con admission required. Finish a session and you walk out with a gift set: the CP-001 Chakra Card in its Gen Con 2026 version, a special backpack, a logo sticker, and a purchase voucher for the official playmat ($35 plus tax, shipping only in 2027).

Sounds nice, right? For most of you it’s still a spectator sport. Unless you happen to be standing in Indianapolis in late July, there’s no regular way to get that promo. And I’ll tell you now how this movie ends: the CP-001 shows up on eBay in a week or two, at prices that have nothing to do with the card’s actual worth. We’ve seen it before. Same story with every hot TCG launch.

The one consolation prize you can grab from a distance is the sticker. You get it for following the official channels or registering with BANDAI TCG+. Better than nothing.

What this means for us in Europe

Now the part the US sites like to skip. A worldwide 2027 release is a lovely phrase to start with. The only question is how „worldwide“ actually feels once it hits German reality, and for that it’s worth looking at Bandai’s own track record. When the One Piece Card Game landed here, it was months of pure frustration: displays gone instantly, allocation chaos, scalper prices. Union Arena, Bandai’s other newcomer, never really made it onto shelves over here in any broad way.

Does that mean Naruto goes the same route? Not necessarily. Bandai learned from the One Piece start, and print runs have grown since then. But that a hype title like a Naruto TCG just sits quietly on the shelf in 2027 — honestly, I wouldn’t bet on it. If the game interests you, keep an eye on distribution the moment Bandai’s regional arm says anything. Preordering rarely hurts.

My theory? July 29 decides more than the date lets on. A reveal that only shows pretty artwork and stays silent on mechanics would be a wasted shot. The competitive crowd wants to know whether there’s a real game underneath, or a license product with Kishimoto art slapped on top. I’m betting on the former, purely because of that „strategic, competitive“ framing. Bandai still has to prove it, though.
