Naruto Card Game Comes to Germany’s SPIEL Essen

I clicked into the official NARUTO CARD GAME event roadmap last week out of pure duty. More America, I assumed. Another booth in a hall roughly 4,000 miles from my kitchen table. Then I kept scrolling.

SPIEL Essen 2026, October 22 through 25. Germany. Right there on Bandai’s own page, parked between PAX Aus in Melbourne and Paris Games Week.

Did not see that coming. Bandai has a long habit of serving Europe late on new launches, and the three news posts that dropped on August 7 were all US and Australia: a promo card at Yankee Stadium, a booth at PAX Aus, a booth at New York Comic Con. Essen got no headline at all. It’s on the list anyway.

What Essen probably looks like, if Bandai sticks to its pattern

No dedicated Essen page yet. New York Comic Con and PAX Aus both have one, and those two pages are built so identically that guessing what lands in Messe Essen isn’t much of a stretch.

Both offer free Tutorial Sessions. Register on site the day of, one session per person for the whole show, demo decks stay behind. Play a session, register for the „NARUTO TCG UPDATES CHANNEL“ on the TCG+ app, fill out the survey afterward, and you walk out with the CP-001 Chakra Card plus a logo sticker. One set per person, however many times you sit down.

That CP-001 is the same card they handed out in Indianapolis, and it currently sits in eBay listings north of the $1,000 mark. Listings, to be clear. Not confirmed sales. Nobody actually knows what changes hands. The direction is obvious anyway, which is exactly why the one-per-person rule gets spelled out so bluntly.

Here’s what sells me on the format. Bandai isn’t shipping a glass display case to Essen, it’s letting people play. Ten months before release. Back at the June reveal all we got was a Kishimoto illustration and a date. Now you can put hands on the thing before the first booster box hits a shelf anywhere.

Thirty-five dollars, and what that means over here

Both detail pages carry the first official price tag attached to the NCG. The NARUTO CARD GAME Official Playmat runs $35 plus tax, shipping in 2027, limited daily quantities, one per person.

For a playmat that’s nothing special. One Piece mats sit in the same bracket, and anybody who has ever bought a Secret Lair playmat over in Magic land will laugh at thirty-five bucks. But dollars-plus-tax is not a number you convert straight into euros. The road into Germany runs through Asmodee, and the EU price will be its own calculation entirely.

Which brings up the second thing that got buried under all the event noise. On July 30, Asmodee confirmed it is handling distribution across the European Economic Area, covering hobby, specialty and mass market retail. Marjolein Lubberman, Chief Commercial Officer at Asmodee, put it this way:

„We’re proud to add the NARUTO CARD GAME to our portfolio of games published by our fantastic partners.“

Asmodee already runs One Piece, Dragon Ball Super, Digimon and Gundam for Bandai in Europe. Anyone who has tried to grab One Piece displays on release day knows that is no promise of full shelves. What it does mean: the supply chain exists, and my local shop orders this through the same pipe as everything else in the Bandai catalog. After the import odysseys of the past few years, I’ll take it.

The community stopped waiting a while ago

While Bandai sorts out convention dates, the scene is off building its own toys. A fan-made simulator has been making the rounds on r/NarutoCardGame for days now. Browser-based, deck builder, collection tracking, a sealed mode, a leaderboard. Unofficial, zero blessing from Bandai, and still the fastest way to watch the ruleset actually move.

Same subreddit, u/Acceptable_Step_3822 is asking for recommendations on printing proxy demo decks with a portable 2×3 printer, because they travel a lot. A card game that does not exist yet, and somebody is already planning the road-trip edition. Wild. A game that pushes people that far has solved its core problem before a single card reaches a store.

Quick rules refresher, in case you fancy a seat at a table in Essen: you build around a Leader card, plus a 51-card deck, 5 Chakra cards and one Summon card. Five card types total, Chakra is your resource, Summon puts characters on the field, and you win by dropping the opposing Leader’s Life to zero. If you know One Piece, ten minutes will do it.

One weekend, three continents

The roadmap adds up to an absolutely stuffed autumn. New York Comic Con October 8 to 11, booth 2705 at the Javits Center. PAX Aus October 9 to 11 in Melbourne. Then Essen and Paris Games Week running simultaneously October 22 to 25, followed by Lucca Comics & Games from October 28 to November 1. Running alongside all of it is BANDAI CARD GAMES Fest 26-27 across eleven cities, whose only European stop is London in January 2027, and Naruto is still missing from that event’s title lineup.

Three continents in four weeks, some of it on the same weekend. Shadow clones would genuinely come in handy here.

My theory: the Essen page is still coming, probably in September, and it’ll carry the same package as New York and Melbourne. Tutorial sessions, CP-001 and a sticker in exchange for TCG+ registration. If you want that card, download the app ahead of time and sign up for the update channel instead of fumbling with it while the line moves.

Anyone heading to Essen in October? And what pulls harder for you, the demo or the promo card? I’m still torn on whether to burn a vacation day for four days of convention floor. Probably yes.
