Bandai confirmed NARUTO Night at Yankee Stadium on August 7: a CP-001 Chakra Card in a Yankees version for 40,000 fans. Ticket prices for that night have already jumped roughly tenfold.

On August 7, Bandai slipped three new pages onto the official NCG site without much noise. Two are convention pages. The third one is about a baseball stadium in the Bronx, and that’s the one I want to talk about.

On September 8 the New York Yankees host the Colorado Rockies, and the night officially runs as „NARUTO Night at Yankee Stadium“. Everybody who makes it through the gate walks out with a CP-001 Chakra Card, New York Yankees Ver. Same first card of the game that turned up at Gen Con, except now it wears a Yankees logo. Bandai lists it directly these days, with a note that tickets and logistics run entirely through the Yankees.

A card for a game that doesn’t exist yet

Some context, because this still sounds ridiculous when you say it out loud. The NARUTO CARD GAME launches in Summer 2027, worldwide, all at once. No boosters. No starters. Not even a price list. There’s exactly one card in circulation right now, and Bandai gives it away.

The Gen Con version is going for $1,000 to $1,200 on eBay (asking prices, not verified sales). One bundle with the card, a playmat voucher and the backpack sat at $1,800.

Now the Yankees version is pulling the same trick, only quicker. Back in July, when nobody had seen the design yet, presale listings were already sitting around $800. On August 5 the Yankees stuck a „Presented by Bandai“ tag onto their promotional schedule, which killed off the last bit of doubt anyone still had. Two days later Bandai confirmed it themselves.

The print run went from 18,000 up to 40,000 cards. Expected attendance is roughly 45,000. You can do that math yourself.

Kakuzu would love this evening

The real damage shows up in the ticket shop. Yankees games on September 9 and 10 start around $10 to $11. For September 8 you’re looking at roughly $115 just to get in the building. July reports had it jumping from $30 to over $140, depending on what hour you checked.

Credit where it’s due: the Yankees clearly thought about this. One giveaway per valid same-day ticket, and anyone showing up at the gate with a stack of tickets gets sent to requeue at a different entrance, according to reports from the stadium. Does that stop a guy who brought four friends along as shadow clones? Not really, no.

None of this is new, either. On July 2 the Dodgers ran a One Piece giveaway, and inside of a day ungraded copies were near $1,000, with PSA 10 examples hitting $3,800. Bandai knows precisely what happens when an anime brand meets a ballpark. The bump to 40,000 copies wasn’t charity, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise.

So what about the rest of us?

The other two pages from August 7 carry the actual event details for New York Comic Con (October 8 to 11, Javits Center, booth 2705) and PAX Aus in Melbourne (October 9 to 11, MCEC). Same setup at both: free tutorial sessions, on-site registration, demo decks stay at the booth. Register on the TCG+ channel, fill out the survey afterward, and you walk away with the CP-001 Chakra Card plus a logo sticker. One participation per person per convention, and that’s the cap.

Buried in there is the first real merchandise price we’ve seen out of this game. The official playmat runs $35 plus tax and arrives in 2027. Going by the usual Bandai pattern, European buyers should expect somewhere around 35 to 40 euros, assuming the thing reaches local game stores at all. With One Piece that was pure luck for the first few months.

Here’s the part that bugs me. The European dates have been locked since July 29: Spiel Essen October 22 to 25, Paris Games Week in the same window, Lucca October 28 to November 1. New York and Melbourne got dedicated pages on August 7, complete with booth numbers, schedules and giveaway rules. Essen? Nothing so far.

I don’t want to blow this up into something it isn’t. Essen is still two and a half months out, and Bandai usually posts those detail pages a few weeks ahead. Even so, the order in which they went live says something about where the attention is going right now.

My take

The Yankees card is going to be expensive, and the card itself has almost nothing to do with it. 40,000 copies is a healthy number for a collectible. The price exists purely because there is nothing else from this game you could own besides the Gen Con version. Once the first boosters hit shelves in 2027, all that pent-up attention gets spread across a few hundred cards, and the Chakra card starts looking like what it always was: a good-looking promo with a baseball logo on it.

Anyone dropping $800 on one right now is buying scarcity with an expiration date. Simple as that.

The question I actually care about: does Essen get a regional variant too? A CP-001 with convention branding would be the first NCG card Europeans could grab without booking a transatlantic flight. Drop a comment if you’re heading to Essen in October.
